David Muench is an American photographer. Muench is a landscape photographer. Both of his parents also worked in the field of photography. Muench works primarily in large format photography, meaning that his images are printed large in great detail and clarity. He also uses color in a lot of his landscapes. He has worked with several magazines and has received several awards throughout his life. Muench has used a couple different kind s of cameras throughout his career, they are always analogue , and with those cameras he has used different kind s of lenses , such as wide-angle and a telephoto lenses . He has also used different types of film, but he usually worked with  large format film .      I really like his image titled “Evening, Rock in Tidal Pool” from Bandon Beach SP, Oregon. This landscape is breathtaking. I love the different colors he was able to capture in the sky and on the ground. Not only can you see the shift in color from the sunset in the sky if you look

Tokihiro Sato

Image
Tokihiro Sato is a Japanese photographer. He works a lot on light drawings. This is where the artist uses light in a dark environment to make something new that would not usually look that way. They can also use the light to draw in the air. Sato was originally trained as a sculptor, he later turned to photography to explore light and space. Sato uses a darkening filter to lengthen his exposures which usually last from one to three hours. When shooting outside during the day he uses a mirror to reflect the sunlight into the camera. When shooting inside or at night he uses a small flashlight to shine light into the camera. Not onl y is Sato an artist he is also a professor at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.   The piece I chose of Sato’s to look at is #352 Kashimagawa , 1998. This piece is from his show “Presence or Absence: The Photographs of Tokihiro Sato ”. This is a series of light drawings. I chose this piece because I really like it. He is able to make the

Tom Chambers

Image
Tom Chambers is an American photographer. He was raised in Pennsylvania. He uses a digital camera for his work and edits his images in P hotoshop. He works on photomontages. This is where several images are combined into a single image. Before he starts an image, he draws the concept for it first. He then photographs each piece of the constructed image. He later pieces them together in P hotoshop. He must make sure that the lighting in each shot is similar enough so that the finished ima ge looks as natural as possible. This process can take a month or more to do. Lastly, he prints his images on cotton rag paper with archival pigment inks.      I really like his image titled “Roses and Gown” in his Rite of Passage series. I like this image in this series because it looks creepy, and it does not look like this was a pho tomontage. This is a very well-constructed image. If I had to guess I think there w ere probably three images used to make this one image. The background i

Alex Stoddard

Image
Alex Stoddard is an American photographer, raised in Georgia. He now lives in Los Angeles. He started his path as a photographer when he was a teenager. He took inspiration from the environment around him. He started by taking self-portraits. For every elaborate self-portrait, he became a new character using costumes and posing. He is a completely self-taught digital photographer. He relies on his instinct, what he sees, and his experience to create his photos. His concepts are best described as surrealist. While being a full-time high school student he undertook the 365 project . The 365 project is a project where the artist takes a picture every day for a year.      One of my favorite pictures that Alex Stoddard took  is the above image. This image is from his 365 project . I love that you can tell how much time he puts into his work and how he does whatever it takes to get these images. Not only does he take the time to find the perfect spot to shoot his images he also t

Ray Carofano

Ray Carofano is an American Photographer. His career as a photographer spans over fifty years. In 1969 he started his business Ray Ca rofano Photography Inc. Where he focused mostly on commercial work. In 1991 he began to focus more on his fine art work . In 1998 he began his series Faces of Pedro. This series was of formal studio port ra its of neighborhood “characters ” . He has had several other series as well . Carofano was influenced and inspired by his childhood experiences with the homeless and a tribe of gypsies.      The Image I chose to look at is called “Phil #2” from his Faces of Pedro series. I chose this image because I love how he captured this man’s face. This is a black - and - white portrait of an older gentleman. We do not know much about the man but from the title of the piece , we can assume his name was Phil. We can also tell from the  s tern look on his face that  he is serious and probably a little sorrowful. I love the wa y the lighting is no t to

John Chervinsky

Image
I chose to write about John Chervinsky . He was a self-taught photographer. He was fascinated by the concept of time and used it in his work. The work I liked was from his series titled Studio Physics. For this series , Chervinsky would create a st ill life. He would then crop the image and send it off to a painting factory to be painted in oil paint by an anonymous painter. The painting would then be sent back to him. He would then position the painting into the still life and recapture the image. In doing this he does a couple of things. He captures the passage of time, and he captures reality vs. representation.        I truly love the above piece because of how it represents the passage of time. While some images can capture the passage of time through motion, he was able to do it without motion. I love how the vibrant colors of the full - b looming flowers contrast with the dead - wilting flowers. I especially like it because that is what the flowers once looke
