Gregory Crewdson

Gregory Crewdson is an American Photographer. His work is all staged, but it is made to look not staged. Crewdson started his work when he wanted to make his own short film, but he realized how hard it would be to do an entire short film so instead, he made images that looked cinematic. Almost all of Crewdson’s images for this series, “Twilight”, were done in the same small town. However, some of his images are on sets that he and his team build from scratch. When he photographs in the small town he uses either people from the town or people from his crew. When it comes to Crewdson’s images his attention to detail is amazing. In the set above every little detail was a choice made by Crewdson. He also took several pictures of every production. Most, if not all, of his images were a compilation of the best elements from each of those pictures. In the end, this series had 40 images and it took him 4 years to complete. Alec Soth

       Alec Soth is an American photographer. Above are two of his still-life photos. I picked these two photos of his because they both gave me strong vibes, and in life, I tend to follow the vibes that things give off. The best way to try to explain what I mean is it's like a feeling. When looking at something it gives off an aura or emotion. Like when I look at the picture on the left I feel an older and darker vibe. It kind of feels like anger, despair, and mischief. The lighting and what looks like bars on the outside of the window gives off the feeling of despair or sorrow. The knife gives off the feeling of anger. And the book gives off the feeling of mischief. The picture on the right gives off a sad yet a fatherly and loving aura. It looks like a father reading a story to his child which gives off the fatherly vibe. Michael Kenna

Huangshan Mountains      Michael Kenna is an amazing black and white photographer. I can say this without a doubt because he has gotten several awards to show it. The Imogen Cunningham award in 1981, the Institute of Aesthetic Development award in 1989, the Chevalier of the order of Arts and Letters in 2000, and the honorary Master of Arts in 2003, just to name a few. I would have liked to share all of his works but there are just too many to share so I picked my top five favorites to share. The top three pictures are all from the same mountain range and the bottom two are both from Japan. Breathtaking, hypnotizing, and stunning, these are all words I would use to describe Kenna’s works. My first words I used the first time seeing these pictures were, “oh my god these are beautiful”, and my jaw literal dropped.
